Father of Technoblade, YouTube Minecraft Star, Says his Son Has Died

He read his son's final message on the YouTube channel where the 20-something had entertained more than 11 million users with Minecraft games and hilarious comments. The titlewas "so long nerds."

Technoblade, a YouTube celebrity who gained millions of followers with his humorous commentary on videos of him playing Minecraft has passed away his father announced through a video posted on his son's YouTube account.

Technoblade's Minecraft gameplay was watched by more than 11 million subscribers. He provided commentary on camera. While he was usually focused on what was happening in the game, in a few videos, he talked about everyday life events such as going to the D.M.V. or as devastating as being diagnosed with cancer.

A video titled "so long nerds," that was posted to Technoblade's YouTube channel on Thursday and has been viewed more than 26 million times by Friday afternoon, was a departure from the channel's standard aesthetic of colorful, pixelated bricks. Instead, Technoblade's dad is shown sitting in a chair with an adorable white dog and an unassuming white background.

His father, who does not identify himself, reads an email from his son that begins: "Hello everyone. Technoblade is here. If you are watching this, I am dead."

The message then goes on to reveal Technoblade's first name, Alex. He didn’t use it on the internet. A few photos of Alex and his family are also featured in the video. Alex rarely appeared in YouTube videos and preferred to present himself as a crowned, sword-wielding porcine avatar.

"If I had another hundred years to live I'm sure I'd choose to be Technoblade repeatedly," Alex's letter says. "Those were the most enjoyable years of my life."

His father, who is emotional throughout the video says that Alex and he had been discussing for months the idea to film a final movie. The father of the son says that Alex wrote the letter and died eight hours later.

"I do not think he did everything he wanted to say, but I believe he got the main points," he says.

The video ends with a letter that Alex's mother (who is not named) wrote. She said Alex was not famous and was self-deprecating, despite his channel growing in popularity.

"From Technoblade's earliest online days, he was constantly figuring out ways to delight and reward his followers by offering online prizes, encouraging good sportsmanship and, perhaps most importantly sharing his Minecraft adventures to entertain and laugh," she wrote.

Alex's family was not able to contact Alex on Friday. Hypixel, a gaming company has stated that Alex's family had requested no comment be sent to them. "The video they shared includes all the information they're comfortable sharing at the moment," Don Pireso, the company's lead administrator stated on Twitter in a direct message.

Alex posted his August video on his YouTube channel, in which he first acknowledged his diagnosis of cancer. The video, which featured Alex's off camera comments, showed the game. He kept his self-deprecating, humorous style, avoiding becoming too serious. He also admitted his age at the time, 22.

In the video, he narrated how the first round of chemotherapy made exhausted, it was difficult for him to sit to make a virtual appointment with a doctor. Then, he joked: "Sitting in a chair, am I Superman?"

After experiencing severe discomfort in his arm, he said he was diagnosed. Although he initially dismissed the pain as a result of a repetitive strain injury from playing video games, he later admitted that his shoulder was swelling up after a few days of rest.

He also advised people to get the Covid-19 vaccine. He claimed that his treatments for cancer had weakened the immune system, which made him more prone to serious illnesses caused by the coronavirus.

"I'm going to go ahead and speak on behalf of all cancer patients when I say that it is incredibly annoying when the hospitals are overwhelmed by patients dying of preventable illnesses," he said in the video. "I'm just saying that we have priority for the beds in hospitals.

Technoblade's friends, followers and followers on social media have praised for his humor, as well as his role as a role model for Minecraft players.

Minecraft is different from other games in that its owner, Microsoft, does not control the servers where players interact online. Players can instead create their own servers or join one made by someone else, resulting in an expansive network of worlds in the Minecraft universe.

Hypixel who manages a network of Minecraft servers, said it created a digital publication where people could write messages and they would be printed and delivered to Technoblade's loved ones. The tribute included a photo of Technoblade's pig character as a statue. The company stated that Technoblade's success is tied in many ways to the achievement and success of a lot of people.
